Movie Date With Cousins

Yesterday, I and cousins went to Gateway to watch Iron Man 3. We have agreed long before that we will watch the movie a little bit late because we do not want queueing in long lines. It was a good decision since there weren't any long queues. ^_____^

My attire was all blue, aside from my over-used Grendha sandals. I've been using this since I arrived here because all my shoes are in my packages that haven't arrived yet. Yeah. #hate2GOshipping

I have tall, fair, and beautiful cousins. It's all in my lineage. I hate how I look so midget yesterday. But, the good news is, I had so much fun.

Nadz, Wad, Me

Wad was so hyped about Iron Man that she wore her Iron Man shirt, which is she got in the kids section at SM. hahah! She will kill me for telling this.

Four-eyed girls.

Then off to Cinema 2 for the movie.  You can see how vacant the place is now. Imagine if we watched it last week? Ah. It'd be full. I hate over-crowded places.

So, about Iron Man.

Special effects are awesome. Plot? Similar action hero movies wherein the hero saves the world and his girlfriend. What I noticed were that they are now making Middle Eastern person the bad guys. And oh, not to mention that Mandarin was also used in the movie, if you get what I mean. I think, they are done with German and Russian people as bad guys.

But here's the catch. Behind that Arab/Chinese is not really those people, but some white guy who is insecure of the hero. Okay!

I know I am weird. But, I go pass the usual scenes when I watch a movie. I apply it to real life scenario such as with what is happening in the world (eg. USA, China, Middle East).

This is why I do not really watch movies unless someone invites me so. Yep. Not a movie enthusiast.

After the movie, we went to Bonchon to eat. And here's where all the weird stuffs happened.

We sat in the window side. Apparently, every person who walks by looks at our direction. It's either because my cousins are just so pretty, or that I am wearing the hijab. At first, I thought it was the former. People from this place are liberated, right? They are open-minded.

As we go on waiting, I noticed that some people really had time to look back. And when they do, our eyes meet. Now, I can say that most of them were looking at me. I kind of thought of many positive reactions. There are numerous hijabis in the city now, right? But why the stares? It made me feel how the Muslims in the West are treated.

A worker at Bonchon also had the courage to look at me several times. How'd I know? I have this weird feeling every time someone unfamiliar looks at me. And everytime I look at the person, I catch his eyes staring at me. It's insulting!

People. Didn't you know that it is very rude to stare at people you hardly know? Had I not worn the hijab, I just wonder if they'd still stare at me. People. People.

Anyway, we were so hungry. We continued eating and I let every stare pass through me as if I were a ghost. After eating, we roamed around and went home.

It was a tiring but happy day. ^_____^

  5. Awww, love the photos, you are all so funny and adorable with the poses - and I love your friend's Iron Man shirt!

And yeah, it's a long-time issue with the negative image of Muslims in films or the bad guy being played by Muslims/brown poeple. As you said, at least there was that twist in this film - but in other films, it was more outright: "Muslims are the bad guys" characters. Ex. True Lies with Arnold Schwarzenegger.

    Thanks for sharing Kai!
